April - October 2004 Summary

We returned to France and between seeing friends and socializing we had a wooden valance made for the salon, made

curtains for both the salon and forward windows, purchased a settee for the salon, and put fresh coats of paint on the decks

before our departure for the summer. Our plan was to travel up the Burgundy Canal from St. Jean de Losne (close to our

mooring), through Dijon to Vandenesse. From there we'd go through the Pouilly Tunnel and drop down through the other side of

Burgundy on to the Yonne River, travel on the Seine toward Paris for a short ways and then return on the Central Canals --

Canal de Loing, Canal du Briare, Canal de la Loire, and the Canal du Centre.

We had made the commitment to have our windows and paneling completed at a yard near our mooring the first few weeks

of August, so that was the only time restriction we had. We were to travel over 850 kms and 450 locks during this journey.

We returned to our mooring the first week of August, and spent close to two weeks in the yard having the interior work

completed. It was superbly done and we were very pleased with its outcome.

We had a few days to work on the barge before Julie and Michael arrived for a one week visit. We took them back to the

Canal du Centre with its wonderful smooth bike path that runs along side the canal the entire way. Shortly after their departure,

sailing friends we had me in Central America visited us for a few days. A few days later Stevie & Gerry arrived for almost two

weeks with us before the end of the season.

We felt a great deal was accomplished this year even though we were hampered by the weakening dollar. The wood floors

in the salon are not done, and the kitchen has not been able to be fit out, but JoLi' is definitely inhabitable.
